Technical Overview: Copper Powder
Our copper powders are produced by two principal methods: electrolytic deposition (producing irregular, dendritic particles ideal for diamond tooling and pressed parts) and gas atomisation (producing spherical particles for thermal spray, cold spray and additive manufacturing).
Purity ranges from 99.5% to 99.9% Cu, with apparent densities of 2.0–4.8 g/cm³ depending on morphology. All grades are characterised by particle size distribution, apparent density, flow rate (where applicable) and hydrogen loss.

What is copper powder used for?
Copper powder is used in diamond tool bond matrices, conductive pastes, thermal spray coatings, cold spray restoration, additive manufacturing, brazing alloy formulation, powder metallurgy pressed parts, and EMI shielding. What is the difference between electrolytic and atomised copper powder?
Electrolytic copper powder (CU-ED) is produced by electrodeposition and has a dendritic, tree-like morphology with excellent green strength and compressibility for pressed parts. Atomised copper powder (CU-AT) is produced by gas atomisation and has spherical morphology with excellent flowability for thermal spray, cold spray and additive manufacturing.
What mesh sizes of copper powder are available?
Standard mesh sizes are -100, -200 and -325 mesh, with -400 mesh available on request. For additive manufacturing, gas-atomised grades are supplied in 15-45µm and 45-90µm size ranges. Custom mesh ranges and PSDs can be produced to specification.
What purity grades of copper powder do you supply?
Standard purity is 99.5% Cu minimum for electrolytic grades (CU-ED) and 99.9% Cu minimum for atomised grades (CU-AT). Higher purity grades are available on request. All grades come with full chemical analysis and batch traceability documentation.
What copper powder is best for diamond tool manufacturing?
For diamond tool bond matrices, electrolytic dendritic copper powder (CU-ED) is the industry standard. The dendritic morphology provides high green strength during pressing and uniform sintering behaviour. Mesh sizes of -200 to -325 are typically specified, with the SFP grade range allowing apparent density tuning from 0.65 to 2.7 g/cm³ to match each manufacturer's segment formulation.
